God Knows That I Love Cookies

I'm going to tell you all a story about cookies. I love cookies, and I firmly believe that God knows that.

*Preface*
As missionaries, we are fed dinner by members of our church, which is so wonderful! It's such a blessing to us, because it allows us more time to focus on our work. And we get to eat with the great people that live here. I love, love, love being fed by members.

A few days ago I was going about my business as a missionary. It wasn't a bad day. It wasn't an abnormal day. But it was long. And I wanted a cookie.

Because someone else was feeding me dinner, I didn't have control over whether or not I got a cookie. I stopped thinking about it, and continued with my work. It was Sunday, so I had six hours of church, then two hours of meetings after. I was so tired and hungry by dinner time.



We got to eat dinner with the coolest family! They were so great, and just being in their home really lifted my spirits. As we were about to leave, the mother of the family said, "Do you have time to decorate cookies with us?" That was seriously the greatest moment for me.

This story probably doesn't mean much to all of you, but it taught me two lessons.

The first being that God knows that I love cookies. He knows what my day was like, and He knows that eating a cookie would brigthen my mood. He knows what I'm going through, and He knows my thoughts and my heart. As a modern-day apostle, Neil A. Maxwell, said, "I testify to you that God has known you individually … for a long, long time. He has loved you for a long, long time. He not only knows the names of all the stars; He knows your names and all your heartaches and your joys!”

And the second; we don't always know the effect our actions have on someone. The smallest kind act (like giving someone a cookie) can completely change their day, or their week, or even their life! The most common way God answers our prayers is through other people. So go give someone a cookie!
